Beavers Beavers is one of the five sections in Scouting. A young person will be eligible to attend Beaver scouts if they are between 6 and 8 years of age. All sections follow the aims of the Scout Association in promoting the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities. We will concentrate here on the Beaver Scout section. When and where do the 1st Hartford Beavers Meet? Tuesday Beavers meet on a Tuesday between 6pm and 7.15pm at the scout hut.Wednesday Beavers meet on a Wednesday between 5.45pm to 6.45pm at the scout hut. Who are Beaver Scouts? BEAVER SCOUTS, often shortened to BEAVERS, is the youngest section of the Scout Group. Beavers are both boys and girls, generally aged between 6 and 8 years of age. They enjoy all that Scouting has to offer; being introduced to outdoor activities, having the opportunity to be creative, explore their local community and experience the fun and excitement of a Beaver Scout Sleepover with their friends! Beavers meet in a group called a COLONY (as in a Colony of Beavers). The Beavers in the Colony are organised into LODGES. Each Lodge has their own name and is made up of boys and girls covering a range of ages and abilities. Each Lodge has a LODGE LEADER who is in “charge” of the lodge for a period of time and has the responsibility of assisting the Leaders. Beavers are “promoted” to Lodge Leader by showing competence and good behavior. What do we do? A Beaver Scout’s activities are based around making things, trying new things, outdoor activities, singing, playing games, going out on visits, investigating science, nature and the World around us, listening to stories, learning how to be safe, making new friends and having fun! However, earning badges and awards through set challenges and activities is a really important part of being a Beaver Scout. Badges and awards are the reward for being adventurous, having a go and taking part. The various badges will involve work at the Colony meetings, sometimes at special events and also a certain amount of work to be completed at home. Ultimately the goal is for a Beaver to complete his/her chief Scout’s Bronze Award before moving on to the Cubs section. (NB. The Beaver Programme is based on participation rather than achievement).
